QUESTIONS and ANSWERS with NT scholar Prof. Bart Ehrman
by Terry inthe following is a tiny excerpt from bart ehrman's blog of which i'm a member.. this particular entry contains questions and answers about the nature of translating the new testament.. .
did the fact that early christian scripture was written in koine greek have an effect in how the religion was perceived by the pagan elites and imperial family?
in other words, did that make the religion look bad or koine greek was acceptable?

It's my birthday today
by Bruja-del-Sol in... but most of my new (post jw) friends either don't know my birth date (if people don't specifically ask i won't tell them), or they are 2500 kilometers away in the netherlands... so all that's left to celebrate with me are my hubby, the two doggies, cat and my two rabbits... mixed feelings, i miss my friends and family around and haven't found friends in spain yet.
luckily our daughter will visit us the end of the month... and yesterday we've found a new rental house and we're moving into it next month already!
i'm thrilled and really looking forward to it, then we will finally be able to let all the rest of our belongings come to spain (2/3 of our stuff is stored in the netherlands).. so with this in mind, i'll just say 'happy birthday to me' and will enjoy my third birthday in espana .

curioso: thank you for your comment.. When this article will published send me a message, because I like to read it..
A question,: In America there are between 2 millions-5 millions people involved in approximatelt between 2000-5000 Religious cults. Are all these people subject to mind control? are they all influenced against their will?
good night from europe
Enzo, if You want and can read in portuguese I can send You the article now.
The question You do reflects a misconception of how cults work. When someone is influenced by other, whether in society or in closed groups as sects, rarely is against their will.
The process of indoctrination or "influence" is done so that you feel you need that group or leader for your well-being, happiness or salvation.
The problem comes, as with those inside of Jehovah's Witnesses, when someone begins to have doubts or does not believe anymore. That is an untenable and difficult situation because on one hand you want to be free from the group but otherwise will be reprisals if You decide to leave.
In destructive sects rarely the person out unscathed. There is always a price to pay, be it moral, physical or emotional. And not to speak of family and friends who are in the group and they began to consider you a traitor and apostate enemy.

I have a single scripture that nail the point of the twisted interpretation of the JW, out of context:
John 10:16: "And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; those too I must bring in, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd."
Who are the "other sheep" mentioned by Jesus?
JW say that are the persons that will live in the earth in contrast to the annoited that will live in Heaven with Christ.
The questions are:
1) To whom Jesus says this words?
2) Which is the matter in question? Some kind of future hope (earth vs heaven)?
3) The expression "sheep" used by Jesus many times referes to whom?
First, if You see the context You will see that Jesus is talking with the Pharisees (see John 9:40 forward).
Second, the subject in debate is the identification of Jesus as the "fine shepperd", the defender and protector of the sheep. He as a sheepfold were they can find protection. This is the context to whom he speaks. Anywhere, Jesus speaks about a future hope in heaven or earth but only about a simbolic "sheepfold" for figurative "sheeps".
Jesus tell to is listeners that in the sheepfold that he as, two groups will be reunited under is protection and supervision. Remember that this words are said directly to the Pharisees and with all the crowd of disciples and other people listening. No hopes are involved.
Third, Jesus says "And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold..."
"Other sheep" but not of this fold... what this means? The expression "this fold" is important here! Imagine Jesus surrounded by dozens, if not hundreds of people. Making a sweeping gesture he says "...which are not of this fold..."
What fold?
Well... What was the nationality of their listeners? Israelites! Jesus said several times that he had come to preach to whom?
He answered: “I was not sent to anyone except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” – Matthew 15:24
This is the key to understand that Jesus was talking about "other sheep" that don't were from the "house of Israel". Who were they?
Jesus said before ascend to heavens: " Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them." – Matthew 28:19
YES! People of all nations would be gathered to the same fold that the disciples belonging to the "house of Israel" becoming one flock with one shepperd.
This happened when gentiles began to receive and accept the Good News of the gospel.
When someone read this text in context and simplicity, its clear this understanding. A JW will have dificulty to rebute this explanation and will see the distortion that Watchtower give to the text and the words of Jesus.
